Mirror World Of Melody Black

Hi all

I know I have been MIA for awhile now. Work and home life have taken over

So I have managed to squeeze in some reading though to catch up and I am going to schedule a few new posts

First on the list is......

This is October's book club book. He is a local author to us and came to our book club meeting on the 7th November. Yay I got my copy signed :)

The blurb inside reads
"It all starts, as these things sometimes do, with a dead man
He was a neighbour, not someone Abby knew well, but still, finding a body when you only came over to borrow a tin of tomatoes, that comes as a bit of a shock.
At least, it should
And now she can't shake the feeling that if she hadn't gone into Simon's flat, if she'd had her normal Wednesday night instead, then none of what happened next would have happened
And she would never have met Melody Black"

The story, in essence, is about mental disorder, how it affects not only you but everyone around you. It also shows how that even though to others it seems you are going off on a tangent, that you think you are acting perfectly normal and that everyone else is overreacting.

The story is brilliantly written. To begin with, I didn't actually like Abby the main character. But as the story progressed and I learnt more about her, she became likeable and even relatable to an extent. The scene in the Dorchester is particularly good, as is the time on Lindisfarne.

The whole book normalises mental illness which is a brilliant thing to do.

Gavin himself is a fantastic guy and hung around to talk to me for awhile after the meeting had
finished. He has written two other books, The Universe Versus Alex Woods and The Empathy Project

Hope you are all well
Happy Reading :)
